Modelling the Noorduyn Norseman in Australian Service Part 2 - Aircraft Colour Schemes

Steve Mackenzie

In support of Roger's article I have done 11 (eleven) profiles of the schemes carried by different airframes. I have selected the most colourful aircraft. Not surprisingly as Gibbes Sepik Airways used 9 of the 10 airframes that went into postwar civil service their is a wide selection of their airframes. Interestingly the images show that there were differences in their markings over the years.

If modelling any of these schemes, one thing to note carefully is the window and cargo door arrangements as these can vary significantly between airframes.

VH-ASS Gibbes Sepik Airways

Ref: image on Page 4 of the article.

Overall Aluminium, metal panels and Aluminium doped fabric areas. Black Regos VH-ASS and anti-glare panel. Green checks on the Aluminium rudder. Surprisingly as the image is reportedly taken in 1956 there is no 'Gibbes Sepik Airways' titles at all despite being with them since 1952.

VH-BHG Gibbes Sepik Airways

Ref: images on Page 5 of the article.

Overall Aluminium, metal panels and Aluminium doped fabric areas. Black Regos VH-BHG (with narrow White outlines) and anti-glare panel. Green checks on the Aluminium rudder. 'Gibbes Sepik Airways' title below the cockpit in Black plus 'GSA' in two positions (the fin one is faint but it is there).

VH-BNE Gibbes Sepik Airways

Ref: images on Page 6 of the article, plus the one below.

Overall Aluminium, metal panels and Aluminium doped fabric areas. Black Regos VH-BNE (with narrow White outlines) and anti-glare panel. Green checks on the Aluminium rudder. 'Gibbes Sepik Airways' title below the cockpit in Black (but unusually in two lines, the only one I have seen like that). None of the images we have show the rudder, so I have assumed it has the usual Green checks.
