DH.94 Moth Minors in Australian civil service P3

DCA allocated registrations VH-ADA, VH-ADB and VH-ADC on request from Royal Aero Club of WA for three new Moth Minors ordered from UK and received Dec 1939. Geoff Goodall's site has photos of all three which are virtually identical markings wise. I did a profile of VH-ADC. VH-ADA was modified postwar with a Wackett canopy and re-registered VH-ADL. ADB was written off 1940 and ADC sold to Netherlands East Indies in 1941, so none of them went into postwar civil service under their original regos.

Profile of VH-ADC in the scheme of Silver overall with Black rego, spinner and stripe. Red insignia (it appears to be a 'moth') on the fin.

VH-ADJ was the 2nd airframe along with ACO to go to the Aero Club of Broken Hill in 1940. Photo on Geoff Goodall's site dated 1948 (with ACO in the same scheme in the background).

Profile of VH-ADJ in the simple scheme of Silver overall with Red bands on fuselage and wings, plus a Red fuselage flash. Lower and front cowl in a darker metallic colour. Black rego on fuselage but none on fin or possibly upper wings.

VH-ADJ was later repainted by Aero Club of Broken Hill with a very different shaped fuselage flash and the club insignia on the tail. Also has wing regos which are possibly Black. Refs - Photo on the Geoff Goodall's site plus one I got from elsewhere.

Profile of VH-ADJ in the scheme of Silver overall with a strange shaped Red fuselage flash. Club badge on tail (see detail image below). Black regos on tail and upper starboard wing.

Aero Club of Broken Hill badge.

This is part 1 of what will be likely a 3 part series as there are still a lot more profiles to present. Major references and acknowledgements are as follows:

The major reference is Geoff Goodall's page at 'https://www.goodall.com.au/australian-aviation/dh94/dh94mothminor.htm'. This lists every RAAF serial, owner, change of rego etc with dates and other detail such as colour schemes with many photos. Highly recommended.

Another major source is Eddie Coates' website at https://www.edcoatescollection.com/ which has comprehensive info on Australian civil airframes. You have to access each rego's page separately from his main index.

I would like to thank Alan Flett for the assistance he has given to me to do this series. In addition Alan Flett and Dave Welsh have given permission to use images that they hold copyright on.
