Notes on CAC Mustang A68-105
The first three images (Nos 1-3) came from Ken Frearson, who bought the thing from the R.H.Grant Trading Co. and trucked it down from Tocumwal - all recorded in mid-December 1960 when it was transported; the first two are on Tocumwal airfield, p5200-0332 is thought to be whilst passing through Seymour, Vic
The next six images (Nos 4-9) show A68-105 shortly after assembly at Frearson's Shell garage at Laverton, Vic. The first 4 by Bob Dougherty early in February 1961, nos. -1264 & -1265 by myself on 25 February 1961. To this point in time, the aircraft retained all of its original R.A.A.F. paintwork.
The remaining images (Nos 10-31) show that by mid-1961, Frearson had jacked the tail up and built steps so that the Great Unwashed could walk over the wing and peer into the cockpit - it was a great attraction at the time! Image -1266 was recorded by Bob Dougherty about July/August and the remainder by myself on 10 September 1961. By this time, Frearson had added the nose lettering and done some 'retouching' of some of the R.A.A.F. markings and stencilling . . . myself and Dick Hourigan spent the whole day measuring and recording the markings but I have no idea where those notes ended up!
