A20-175 (with 170 in background). Allocated to number 2 OTU RAAF based at Mildura Victoria Australia 13 Feb 1945. The aircraft was involved in a mid-air collision with A20-650 during a line astern chase
Wirraways in overall Foliage Green were quite rare except for those in 4 & 5 Sqns (which will be covered in Part 4). But there were some known examples, particularly with 2 OTU.
Profile of A20-175 in Foliage Green overall with Blue/White type roundels in six positions plus fin flashes. Fuselage serials in Med Sea Grey. Yellow #75.
Another 2 OTU example.
Profile of A20-501 in Foliage Green overall with Blue/White type roundels in six positions plus fin flashes. Fuselage serials in Med Sea Grey. Yellow #501.
Wirraways in later war operational units were also quite rare except for those in 4 & 5 Sqns (which will be covered in Part 4).
Labuan post war. The two Wirras bear the codes of No. 75, (GA), and No. 78, (HU), Kittyhawk Sqns of No. 78 Fighter Wing. The 75 Sqn example appears to have the Red fin top used on their P-40s of that period. Unfortunately neither could be identified to a serial from the info at ADF Serials.
Profile of the 78 Sqn airframe in Foliage Green overall with Blue/White type roundels in six positions. White tail and wing leading edges. Sky Blue codes. It possibly has a Blue fin top (78 Sqn unit colour).
